Ways to improve Search Engine Rating

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Even with the most professional web design pages and the most impressive ecommerce website, if your site cannot be found when someone performs a search, you will not succeed. You will find that with web design, you have a number of opportunities to improve search engine rankings.

This means if you sold custom light fixtures, and someone performs a Google.com search using the words, “custom lighting” or “custom light fixtures”, he or she would be presented with multiple pages, each containing links to websites just like yours. Obviously, the goal with any web design is to create a site that will return in the search results, preferably on the first page. Now, it takes time to achieve this goal but with a few simple changes, it can be done.

For one thing, you can improve the keyword density in the website’s content.  This means writing the content of your home page and following pages, using words by which a person would search. Again, for custom lighting, you might use keywords such as “lighting fixtures”, “unique lighting solutions”, “customized lighting”, and so on. Before you even start on the web design, create a list of keywords that you would want to use. Then, you need to make sure the content flows and is not simply overloaded with a bunch of words that make no sense.

While it might seem as if overloading content with keywords would help with the rating, the truth is that many search engines will reject your site, deeming the content as spam. The best option is to write a normal page of content, weaving approximately 3% of keywords into the sentences in a natural flow. Then, instead of using the same word, such as “custom lighting”, use variations, as shown above. This single strategy for internet marketing can have a huge impact on how well or how poorly your website rates in search engine results.
